Biomechanical Comparison Between the Cruciate Suture and a Single Vertical Suture Used for Arthroscopic Meniscal Repair: Response

چکیده
Authors’ Response: We appreciate the letter to the editor and agree with the comments. It is important to highlight that Abdelkafy and colleagues evaluated a cruciate pattern produced with a single suture while our study evaluated a cruciate pattern created by 2 meniscal repair suture devices, effectively producing a repair with 2 sutures. The difference of 1 suture versus 2 sutures is a probable explanation for the difference in conclusions reached between the 2 studies. Charles Milchteim, MD Eric A. Biomechanical Comparison Between the Cruciate Suture and a Single Vertical Suture Used for Arthroscopic Meniscal Repair: Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor: I recently read with interest the article titled “Biomechanical Comparison of Parallel and Crossed Suture Repair for Longitudinal Meniscus Tears” by Milchteim et al published in the April 2016 issue of the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine (OJSM). The article is great and adds a lot to the current available knowledge, and I believe that it is of great interest to the readers o...
متن کاملLoad to failure testing of new meniscal repair devices.
PURPOSE New all-inside meniscal repair devices include those combining sutures with anchors and that allow for an "adjustable" repair. This study's purpose was to compare the failure strength of new meniscal repair devices with suture repairs. TYPE OF STUDY Experimental laboratory biomechanical study. METHODS A single repair was placed in a vertical longitudinal peripheral tear made in fres...
متن کاملArthroscopic Meniscal Repair: “Modified Outside-In Technique”
Background: Despite the introduction of different techniques for meniscal repair, no single procedure is superior in all situations. The new method for meniscal repair named “ modified outside-in technique ” aims to achieve higher primary fixation strength by an alternative suture technique as well as avoid disadvantages of outside-in, inside-out, and all-inside suture procedures. Additionally...
متن کاملBiomechanical testing of transcapsular meniscal repair
BACKGROUND All of previous biomechanical studies on meniscal repair have examined the meniscus itself without synovial membrane and capsule, although in the clinical setting, the meniscal repair is generally performed including capsule. Therefore, biomechanical properties of transcapsular meniscal repair are unclear. Thus, this study aimed to clarify the biomechanical properties of transcapsula...
متن کاملClinical Results of Meniscal Repair Using Submeniscal Horizontal Sutures
Background: Parts of the implants placed over the meniscus during meniscal repair can wear down the cartilage in the contact zones and cause chronic synovitis. Placing horizontal sutures under the meniscus may overcome this potential hazard. The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate the midterm results of arthroscopic meniscal repair using submeniscally placed out-in horizontal sut...
